Common acceptance dates Gua Sha at 200 BCE, however many scholars say evidence pre-dates this by over 1,000 years!
Gua Sha is used to release blocked Qi which many people automatically assume is a mystical life force used to summon demons, but itโs simply another word for energy. Energy has many forms such as chemical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, nuclear, and so on.
With this understanding of Qi, blood trapped in a tight or spasmed muscle, an injury such as a frozen shoulder or tennis elbow, or any other disease, can be more simply described as a โQi blockageโ.
Modern research confirms Gua Sha reduces pain and inflammation, whilst stimulating an immune and repair response. Therefore Gua Sha can be used for any illness or pain as it clears out toxins and moves stagnant blood in the area of treatment.
Itโs also excellent as a preventative measure as part of your quarterly checkups in conjunction to cupping and acupuncture.
